Defect follow-up: check every recorded item again

After acceptance, this is not a walk by feel. The basis is the defect protocol: every item is checked individually. What appears fixed must be documented. What stays open needs a clear new deadline.

What to watch out for during the upcoming follow-up

Looking only at obvious spots

Often only what jumps out immediately is fixed. Go through every protocol item individually – even the inconspicuous ones.

Allegedly fixed without photo and date

Without current evidence, it remains disputed whether and when the remedial work happened.

Overlooking new damage

Remedial work often causes scratches, stains or consequential damage on adjoining components.

Not agreeing on new deadlines

Without a new date, the item gets lost between the trades – and only reappears when no one is responsible anymore.

What you should prepare and check now for the follow-up

  1. Take the defect protocol as a checklist

Tick every item individually: fixed, partially, open.

  2. Compare old and new condition

Take earlier photos with you and photograph again from the same position: once overview, once detail.

  3. Check remedial work and surroundings

Specifically check whether new scratches or damage to adjoining components occurred during the work.

  4. Record new deadlines in writing

Record location, remaining defect and date for every open item – and email the list to the company on the same day.

Make the follow-up dependable

Document your before-and-after photos directly in the protocol. This way you have clear evidence for every defect.
