The most common expensive defects in the floor wiring

Cables without conduit in the screed

Cables cast in directly cannot be replaced. In case of damage, they can only be reached by breaking the floor open.

Crossings: too little screed above the pipes

Crossings that are too high reduce the thickness of the screed. Exactly there, the risk of cracking increases massively.

Crushed conduits in doorways

Many runs converge in doorways. A flattened conduit cannot be rewired later.

Missing labelling of the runs

Without labelling, assignment is impossible. Later, nobody will know which run goes where.

What you should document and check now in the floor wiring

  1. Each room completely from above

    Photograph the complete floor of every room. Ideally, choose an elevated position for this. This documents the rough routing.

  2. All crossing points in detail

    Take close-ups of all places where runs overlap. This is where the risk of cracking is highest.

  3. Doorways and tight spots

    Photograph each doorway individually in detail. Many pipes converge here and the load is particularly high.

  4. Distance to wall with a tape measure

    Place a tape measure and include it in the photo. This way, the distance to the wall can be exactly reconstructed later.

  5. Check labelling and conduits

    Check whether each run is labelled and undamaged. Report defects immediately. After the screed, it is too late for this.
